Kicking off this board by introducing myself. I'm Emily and I'm your forum Admin.
Here's a look intro to who I am.
I live in Colorado, married and mom to two kiddos. I'm 43 and have struggled with my weight since I was 21. Before then I was super skinny - size zero jeans, could (and did) eat whatever I wanted, and never exercised. I don't really know what caused my weight gain to begin, probably eating habits combined with hormones. Over the years I steadying gained and tried EVERY diet out there and nearly every exercise program. The amount of money I forked over to Weight Watchers alone is ridiculous.
The only time I was successful was in 2011 when I lost 25lbs. But I can't even tell you why that time was different and why I didn't continue losing after that.
In 2012 I discovered I have a love for Obstacle Course Racing and Kickboxing. I am just a much happier person when I'm doing those activities. But of course my weight and issues associated with weight are holding me back from performing up to my full potential.
Over the last two years, I've gained nearly 40lbs. I knew I needed to change but I didn't know how. One day I had a moment of clarity. I realized that I know exactly what I need to do to lose weight. I know what I'm suppose to eat and I know what exercise I need. But even when I do all of that I still don't see any progress. I was just beating my head against the wall over and over. Why would I keep doing that to myself? I needed something drastic. That's the first time I allowed myself to even consider WLS as a possibility.
I was hesitant about WLS as my mom had it done 15 years ago and it did not end well for her. But the more I researched the more comfortable I got. I made the decision in April to move forward. My insurance excludes WLS so I'm self funding my journey. I found a surgeon willing to work with me on financing and he's incredibly experienced and compassionate to boot.
I've opted for the Sleeve and I'll get my surgery on 8/13/2018. Excited to get this journey going!
